Grounded?

One of the easiest practices, has had the most profound effect on my anxiety. Getting grounded! I wish I had learned this as a child. Just like other patterns in the body it takes time for this state of being to have “muscle memory”. Being grounded is so effective that it helped my child through potty training, in which she had a very real and severe fear, due to medical trauma. In our culture, we are often taught to ignore sensations in our body. We are taught slowly over time to retract from the space that we are capable of embodying into a tight coil within ourselves. For my grounding practice, I often envision roots growing from my sacrum or through my feet into the earth. I notice how my body feels when it expands into the earth. I allow any pent up energy to exit into the earth. Those feelings that can overwhelm our bodies can be held by the earth. We do not have to carry them alone.
